The Waza-Logone floodplain is part of lake Chad basin, an ecosystem that spreads from Chad to Cameroon. Over 200.000 people depend on its services for their livelihoods but due to social and ecological difficulties, the ecosystem is deteriorating. ACEEN, a Cameroonian NGO and partner of IUCN NL / EGP, aims to develop and preserve regional biodiversity. By collaborating with different local stakeholders, sensitization and financial and technical support, they help to sustainably manage the floodplain. This short video on YouTube shows the work of ACEEN in the floodplain, where will be starting a new research project that examines regime shifts in African floodplains. Here is another short video about the reflooding effort of the Waza Logone Project (IUCN) featuring Mahamat Aboukar.
