New Working Group

Cattle in Cameroon.
Together with colleagues in the department I have started a new working group. We are currently in the process of developing a graduate program in the study of social-ecological systems, which is critical in this epoch of the Anthropocene. Building on existing faculty strengths in environmental anthropology and archaeology we aim to chart a new direction within the department that transcends the sub-fields and integrates multiple methodological and conceptual tools, including qualitative and quantitative methods.

We aim to make conceptual contributions to the field of anthropology by building on multiple, overlapping connections between our respective research and teaching activities. We plan to foster a community of practice within the department with more collaborations, discussion and activities, i.e., a vibrant intellectual community. Our program has clear relevance for most of the interdisciplinary Discovery Themes that the university promotes. We plan to bring in partners from across the university and build on our existing and successful collaborations.
