Chris Brown awarded a Mershon Center Student Research Grant

Chris Brown in the field.

Congratulations to Chris for his award of a Mershon Center Student Research Grant. This funding will support his dissertation research on emergent forms of citizenship in Kumasi, Ghana. In particular, his research project examines how political entrepreneurs construct new forms of citizenship among immigrant communities in Kumasi, Ghana. Focusing on citizenship-related events in the immigrant enclave of Kumasi, Chris will employ ethnographic methods and grounded theory analysis to construct a theoretical model that links short term event variables and entrepreneurial strategies to long term changes in the discourse and practice of citizenship among immigrant communities.
